What is Plumbline Ministry?
AN OVERVIEW
The Plumbline Ministry at Foundations Church is an inner-healing ministry and discipleship tool that deals with the walls we build in our hearts toward people and toward God.
In Amos 7:7-8, the word of God is represented by a plumbline, which is an instrument that uses gravity to determine the precise vertical direction for the construction of a wall. In this scripture, God is telling His people that they are out of line with His truth and values — and therefore in danger of toppling down.
It’s the same in our lives today. Ideally we’d be perfectly aligned with God’s word but instead — in our responses to life circumstances, traumas and woundings from authority figures — we swing away from it, toward rebellion (an aggressive response) or rejection (a passive response), or both. In this process, we build crooked walls with bricks such as anger, control, insecurity or hostility.
DURING PLUMBLINE MINISTRY, YOU WILL:
STUDY DESCRIPTION FROM THE PUBLISHER
Why are some Christians depressed, apathetic and insecure? What goes wrong in the human heart and spirit? Why do some Christians become even hostile and rebellious? Confronted with disease in the bodies of his patients, Dr. Bruce Thompson discovered that often the root was a diseased and wounded spirit. In this 8-part series, Dr. Thompson reveals the powerful keys to break out of the man-made prisons that we have built for ourselves — prisons of fear, depression and anger.
THE PROCESS
Phase 1: Group Study
Plumbline participants meet in a small group setting on a weekly basis for 9 weeks. Each session should take approximately 2 hours. After an introduction week, you’ll view an 8-part video series while taking notes in the accompanying workbook and answering group discussion questions. At home, you will simultaneously read the Walls of My Heart book, with chapters assigned each week.
Phase 2: Personal Ministry
At the conclusion of the group study portion, you’ll be invited to begin a time of personal ministry, one (or one couple) at a time. During this time, you will meet weekly with a facilitator and a facilitator-in-training, who will guide you in praying through your worksheets. The amount of time this will take is undetermined and varies greatly based on what each person needs to work through. It can take anywhere from one session to 6 weeks or 6 months, and we’re okay with that.
OUR HEART BEHIND THE PLUMBLINE MINISTRY
At Foundations Church we believe in discipleship, and the Plumbline Ministry is a powerful discipleship tool. Through it, we teach people how to hear from God and how to experience freedom and healing as we follow the instruction of James 5:16: “Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.”
